Coals stay with the wood and do not fall to hearth
Fire burns hotter as a result.
Easier to keep going, newly fed wood fires right up.
Only drawback is that you must place kindling and fire starter (paper, fatwood, etc) ON the grate to get the fire going and not UNDER it. Learned that after the first fire and not it's not an issue.
We needed a fireplace grate for our new home. This is perfect. If the wood shifts when burning, the embers just roll together. The fire does not fall appart. As a newbie fire starter- I am thrilled with my fire masterpieces!
